Introduction

The north London based property manager wanted a dedicated home cinema system which is powerful and also easy to operate. We turned his unused guest room into a dedicated home cinema room. In this project, we have used powerful projector from Barco, screen from Projecta, 5.1 sound system from Denon and loud speakers from Bowers & Wilkins. We also added the home cinema system with clients existing Crestron home automation system.

Project brief

We surveyed the project location, took measurements and met with client. The client wanted to have a comfortable seating arrangement for more than 6-8 persons. His full requirement list included, surround sound system with good acoustic, high quality projection, controlling the system with Crestron home automation system, starry ceiling lights.

So, we designed our home cinema taking the room size, shape and seating arrangements into consideration.

AVITHA achieved a complete and well driven solution at the most affordable level.

Technical Overview

Seating:

After taking measurements, the room appeared to be relatively smaller than our other home cinema projects. And client requirement is we install seating arrangements for 6-8 people. To solve that, we decided to add two rows of seats. Back row containing 3 single seats and front row a large sofa specially made for home cinema. The sofa can be shared between max 6 people, that gives the cinema max capacity of around 9 people. We have installed motorised Elite bespoke home cinema seating system.

Projector Screen:

The next task was to find a large projector screen appropriate for the room. After considering measurement of the room, we have selected a screen with the size of 4m width and 2.25m height. We have purchased the screen from Projecta.

Projector:

The distance between the projector and projector screen was relatively smaller. So, producing high quality image projection on a large screen from such a short distance requires a projector capable of short throw as well as produce 4K image quality. And we have selected Barco FL40-4K. This solid-state projector delivers 4K image quality with very low latency. Equipped with an ultra short throw lens, it was the perfect answer to our problem.

Sound system:

We installed a 5.1 Dolby Atmos immersive home cinema sound system in the room. For that we have used AVR from Denon, loud speakers from Bowers and Wilkins. The immersive sound system is designed in a way that audience feels like they are surrounded by sound during the cinema.

Media source:

The system uses kaleidescap as primary movie source, it also uses Apple TV, Sky TV and Samsung Blue Ray for media.

Crestron Integration:

The property is fully automated using Crestron home automation, as certified Crestron installers we were able to connect the home cinema system with Crestron control system. This allowed the client to control lighting, sound, media using app

Acoustic treatment:

Walls are covered with sound acoustic treatment from Artnovion. We selected colour of materials that matches with the interior.

Lighting and temperature control:

In the cinema room, we have installed dim lighting system. So, when the cinema starts playing, all lights are dimmed down to make the room dark. We have also fitted the room with starry ceiling light to make it look magical. All these lights are connected to Lutron. So, they can be controlled using control App. The room has temperature devices from Daikin, which we connected to Crestron. The room always stays at the most comfortable temperature for maximum comfort. Audience can also create temperature and lighting scenes with different settings which they can play out on different types of cinema.
